Editing - Where Is The Love ?
Cutting Rate & Length of Takes
From 0-8 Seconds there is a take which is long.
After this there is a series of short takes with a quick cutting rate which matches the music and what is going on in the music video.
Lipsyncing
We do not have to cover this as there is no lip syncing in the first 20 seconds.
This may be something to consider when we make our next music video.

Music Video Task - Where Is The Love ?
To prove as a group that we are able to produce a full music video next year, each group in our class has to copy and film the first 20 seconds of a music video off a select list. The music video we chose as a group was : Black Eyed Peas - Where Is The Love.
We felt as a group that this was a good choice as we have analysed it already and some of the other music videos we had to choose from were quite complicated.

Richard Dyer - Star Theory
Stars Which Are Constructed
- Constructed, artificial images - advertising, magazines, films and music. A Unique Selling Point which makes them different from other stars.
- Record companies create a stars image (artificial constructions) - We tend to have more respect for them if they present/create their own image themselves.
- We want to believe that stars show their real emotions to us.
Audiences
- Stars - manufactured to make money from audience for record labels.
- X Factor - Stars which are replicated, X Factor repeatedly churns out what they think we want
- Whole markets of audience who want something different - record labels have to cater to these different audiences - Mirror branding - e.g. Rage Against The Machine & Joe McElderry - both part of the same record company (Sony Music).
Ideology
- Cultural values and attitudes - audiences may share these beliefs - e.g. The Jonas Brothers - wearing of purity rings
- A star may influence/create a fashion trend/hairstyle/clothing/copied by audience
- Forms of media dedicated to celebrity gossip where fans can catch up with the lives of favourite stars.
Character
- Presented as 'real' human beings
- Stars are representations of the contradictions/reinforced ideas of the music industry.
- When we see a star's life in magazines - we feel closer to them - e.g. Britney Spears' troubled few years - breakdowns.

There are more than one type of pop princess, with some being innocent and others promote 'sex' appeal. A lot of the artists portray a 'good girl gone bad' theme and as we will be designing an album cover of a new 'pop princess' she will seem innocent and girly.
Examples of 'Pop Princesses'
Taylor Swift is a prime example of an innocent pop princess displaying themes that we will try to use when planning our album cover.
At the start of the career of Britney Spears she acted innocent on her covers displayed the typical themes. However, there are signs of her not being so innocent, for example the messy hair over her eye and the covering of her lips.
Nowadays, with her greatest hits albums she shows a sexy image and seems like she is showing the 'good girl gone bad' theme.
